Role Summary
Emergency Services Technicians enforce all security and life-safety company rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. The position also enforces local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations relating to security and life safety. They proactively respond to security and life-safety issues on our campuses through an active patrol and enforcement program.
Responsibilities
- Provide immediate response to and preliminary investigation of all violations of local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations, including violations of company and campus security policy and procedures, sprinkler alarms, hazmat emergencies, elevator emergencies, spills, odors, medical emergencies, confined-space emergencies, various security problems, and all other nonspecific alarms or issues.
- Provide emergency and non-emergency responses to security and life-safety situations.
- Conduct preliminary security investigations.
- Issue permits for hot work, roof access, cranes, confined space, and propane-powered trucks.
- Properly identify the correct sprinkler system that needs to be shut down and shut off that system. When work has been completed, the technician will be required to properly bring the system back online.
- On a monthly basis, be responsible for inspecting all fire extinguishers, fire doors, sprinkler valves, and stairwell doors with their group. They will perform security systems checks as scheduled or required. They will be responsible for flow testing all sprinkler systems within their group.
- On a yearly basis, test smoke detectors, pull boxes, dry sprinkler systems, anti-freeze systems, deluge systems, pre-action systems, all in-service hoses, all site hydrants, and all sprinkler riser main drains.
- Assist other department members with maintaining and testing level A suits, vehicle equipment maintenance, inventory, CO2 systems, and foam systems
Requirements
- All members will be required to have at least a Medical CFR certification and a NY State Firefighter 1 or equivalent certification.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a New York State Security Guard License.
- Must be willing to be trained in Confined Space Entry and Rescue.
- Have a working knowledge of at least low angle rescue techniques.
- Be able to pass a SCBA test for fit testing and physical.
- Have no history of being claustrophobic.
- Must possess a high school diploma.
- A college degree in criminal justice, fire science, security services, or other related fields is preferred.
